Future Business Programme
The Zukunftsprogramm Wirtschaft (ZPW - Future Business Programme) is one of the regional government's four subsidy programmes focused on the future of Schleswig-Holstein. The ZPW is financed with European Funds for Regional Development, the Bund-Länder-Gemeinschaftsaufgabe "Improvement of regional business culture" (GA), as well as regional funds.
The programme will run from 2007 to 2013, during which time Schleswig-Holstein will receive subsidies of up to 720 million Euro.
The programme brings together the most significant commercial subsidy means in the whole region. The purpose is to increase Schleswig-Holstein's competitiveness as a commercial centre and for its businesses, resulting in an increase in employment. The subsidies from this programme concentrate on four areas:
1. Strengthening knowledge and innovation:
The development and transfer of knowledge from high schools and research centres into businesses is to to promoted. This includes supporting networks and cooperative projects, innovative commercial investments, high school competence centres, and professional and other training centres.
2. Increasing the competitiveness of businesses and strengthening the entrepreneurial basis:
Beside encouraging classic investment through the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises, access to the capital gains market is also to be improved with the help of a risk capital fund. In this way, companies in Schleswig-Holstein can, among other things, work on modernising their businesses. The promotion of family-friendly, employee development can also be supported through subsidies.
3. Improving the commercial infrastructure and means for long-lasting development:
Investment in the commerce-related infrastructure is central to this area. In particular, the locations and transfer conditions for companies are to be improved. This is to be achieved by connecting up and improving commercial real estate according to needs. Measures to improve trash disposal and bottle recycling, and the further development of broadband internet access may also be supported.
4. Developing potentials specific to the region:
The measures to be taken are aimed, first of all, at improving and expanding Schleswig-Holstein's specific strengths in questions of culture and tourism. In the area of tourism, for example, cooperation and marketing concepts as well as the improvement of tourist locations could be subsidized ? here is is important to be in line with the tourism strategies of the Schleswig-Holstein region. Also the tourism value of Natura 2000 areas, in harmony with the protection of the environment, can be supported. For high and medium centres, there are funds available from the fund for sustainable city development.
